Default Torque converter = Engine problems?

I have an 84 GMC 1500 2WD 350. Here's what's going on. When its in park it runs great. Revs up fine and sounds good. When I put it in drive it will take off fine if you go slow. When you push the throttle down it boggs the engine. You let off and baby it and it runs fine again. I've already replaced the whole ignition system and the distributor is advancing. Any ideas? Could it be the torque converter?

Sounds more like a carb tuning issue to me. I knew you were having issues with spark stuff.. and being parked there is a chance you have an issue with the accelerator pump etc in the carb. I would start in the carb anyway because if it was a TC issue it would be pretty much under any engine load

Well that's one thing I forgot to mention. I put another Carb on it. Same issue. I took my otherone apart looked great. Everything was clean and nothing was sticking.

Well if anyone is interested I got it running. I thing what had happened was the harmonic balancer slipped so my timing mark was off. I timed it to about 14 instead of 12 and it seemed to run just fine.

I had a 1985 1/2ton, 305 4barrel with three on the tree that had a very similiar problem. replaced the carb a couple of change. I put in another distributor and no more problem. It turns out that the vacumn advance mechanism in the bottom of the distributor was rusted tight. freed it up, put it back in and it ran great. that was just my expeirence. maybe it could affect the timing?

The advance is good. I checked it a couple of times. I replaced everything in the dist. Wires and plugs. But its still running good now so I think it was the balancer. Thanks for the post
