Thread: 6.5L injectors

    Default 6.5L injectors

One of the sites that I use for parts recomends that the injectors in the 6.5 be replaced at 100,000 miles. Mine seem to be fine at 170,000. Does anyone know the official GM opinion?

I have dealt with and own 6.5 TDs for a long time. GM has no official schedule for change that I have ever seen in my GM Svs manuals. As you noted 100k is a good time to change them without a ? It's not worth the risk; injectors can be deceptive unless you pull them and have them pop tested. And even with that your still taking a risk with 170+ miles. I have a 6.5 that I pulled that had a miss in it and the injectors never had been changed, after pulling one head we found a hole in one piston a partial burn holes in some of others-bad injectors. The owner said there was no problem with the way it ran until the miss. Injectors have to be put on a schedule for service like changing the oil etc.
