What is the best way to tie into my 04 silverado HD 2500 pickup to add external lights? Is there extra wiring for this?

What kind of lighting are you looking for? Warning, driving, fog? Best bet would be in run a 4 gauge (or larger) direct from the battery to a block and wire off of that with relay for turn on from ignition. All depends on what load you will need.

    Welcome to the club!

Agreed on the battery idea, worst thing you can do on a newer vehicle is tie into factory wiring as it's only about 18-22awg already. This way if your aftermarket stuff takes a meltdown, then your truck is still safe.
