Default Messed up thread, Rear calliper bracket

I had my daughter’sBoyfriend remove a bolt from the bracket but managed to wedge the socket andthe ratchet. It was so bad that I had to grind the ratchet off but in doing soI messed up thread in the cast iron peace so that the bolt will not go in allthe way. Can the cast iron be retapped ? Or is there something else I can do.

    Thanks’ Eric

You can try to chase the threads with a good quality tap of the same thread as the bolt was. This will work sometimes. Other than that, you can always change out the bracket. I would get one at the salvage yard if that's an option

I did change the bracket but it's the other end that's the problem. I don't know if it's attached to the plate that's with drive shaft. Thank's Eric

sorry, I guess I misunderstood the question. To answer about tapping cast iron, Yes it can be tapped,(with a good tap) Just don't force the tap, you don't want to brake the cast iron. Lube will help the tapping process.
