03 a/c comp. screaming

turned on the a/c and the compressor just started howling

is the compressor going,or is it low on coolant and not getting lubricated??

belt is turning it so it looks fine from the outside??

Weird. If I had to guess it sounds like a bearing is going.

The system is protected from running when there is not enough freon. So the pump should not engage if the freon is low. Unless someone has bypassed your pressure switch so that the pump will run regardless.

sounds like the belt is a little loose ? does it get louder when you turn the wheel?

I'm sorry, but that's FUNNY right there

My Wife's 2001 Burban runs rough when the A/C is on and shrieks when you hit the gas so I'm thinking it's a bearing issue (in our case) because the belt is fine.

took it to my guy,he said are you sure it's the compressor?? so I opened the hood and turned it on.....3 seconds later "OK OK YOUR RIGHT" please turn it OFF.found a comp.from a rear ended writeoff ,going to change the drier and diaghram tube just to be on the safe side

oh well new hockey gear can wait a little longer
