    Default block heater vs. oil pan heater

    i own a 2001 silverado 1500 4x4 w/ the 5.3. i live in WI and i would like to know more about both and which would be a better choice.

    My trusted local independent mechanic put it this way.

    If you want to be comfortable, put in a block heater. (But it doesn't heat the oil in the pan.)

    If you want to be nice to your engine do the oil pan heater. (But it doesn't warm you up any faster.)
