Hi my name is SHNOOL, it's been 24 hours since my last Dodge drive...
OK, long time dodge owner (2 trucks 12 years).... Yesterday I took a step down the road of general motors family ownership. I loved my dodge. I purchased my 1st one in 2000, put 170,000 miles on it, put nothing but tires, a single u-joint, and 1 set of front brakes. Ran like a top. My 2nd truck, a 2500 HD, I purchased had 75,000 miles on it, I bought it when gas 1st went over $4/gallon for $10k ($10k under bluebook)... the next 4 years I put almost $9000 in repairs in the truck. The truck STILL sits in my driveway, waiting to be sold (by me). The check engine light is on. It is rusted on most surfaces underbody, and has bubble rust throughout the bed. IT'S a 2004! I think maybe the previous owner drove in a salt mine or something... hard to say.
Anyway, my 3:73 gear Dodge, was rated to tow (with the HEMI, and a shortbed) gullp, 8800lbs max. 4:10 gears, it'd go up to 10k. The transmission hunted like "Duckhunt" and my MPG were averaging 10mpg NOT towing, and 7mpg towing (#5000).
I learned a valuable lesson, spec the truck, and MAKE SURE it has the towing equipment you need.
OK, the NEW baby was bought last night, 2 hours from my house. We found a 2012 LONGBED WT, with 4:10 gears and a gas engine. The chevy owners are some of the most happy customers I've met. That with the 2011 Truck of the year award, and reviews online that show the new trucks have really been beefed up, with little cosmetic changes. I like a tweak that is utilitarian like that.
Thanks to Chevy's website, we speced out this CREW CAB LONGBED GAS 4x4 to tow. We'll be upgrading our trailer from #5000GVWR to close to gooseneck #12000GVWR. The truck is supposed to be OK to #13800 gooseneck towing... I'll let you know.
Already out of the gate, we got 13.5mpg uphill all the way home, so I am hopeful for good things with this truck. It's a beast.
Any of you tow folks have any tips for me, a reformed "MOPAR GUY?" is there a 12 step program for this?
