    Default check engine light

I have a 99 silverado, is there any way you can use the check engine light on the dash, and read it like a code, compared to how many times it blinks on start up before the engine is running. Some one mentioned it to me but I doubt it, havent found any info on it yet, instead of using a diagnostic scanner.

That stopped in 95 when they went to the new OBII system I believe, now you need to have a reader to plug into system. Luckily most parts sores will lone you one or even read the codes for you.
