    Default Blower motor resistor

I fixed the problem for now. I pulled the resistor out, turned on the car with help(someone holding the resistor so it doesn't burn anything) I turned the speeds up and down and your help moves the harness around to see if its a loose connection( if the harness is melted). When i got to speed 4 my help noticed the wire was getting warm and at speed 5 burned his hand(melting the harness). for now i run on speed 3 or less i have had no problems. ( but the problem is still there) I followed the red wire up and removed electrical tape and found that the red wire was reduced from thick to thinner going into the harness. That explains the heat. I plain on buying a new harness, matching the thickness of the wire, already have resistor and maybe replace the blowermotor ( might be drawing to much current) but for now i have drove it for about a year with out any problems (speed 3 and under).

yous guys should get us some good pice of the part you are working with, you can get resistors from radio shack. if they are a common resistor, you may be able to cut the old one out and solder a new one in. get a pic. the resistors a color coded to represent their resistive values.

I had the same problem with a 03 Grand Am, and a 1997 F150. What is so hard about making those things to last? I just got a 05 chevy Trailblazer and now I'm just waiting for it to go bad.

    Default Solution

    To All

If you have one of the fowling model GM vehicles this is the procedure for fixing a blower motor not working properly.
You will need to replace both the Blower Motor Resistor and the 7 pin conector that plugs into the resistor at the same time to solve the problem correctly. I do not what parts stores are avbiable in your area but I have included the BWD part number for the harness connector and the resistor. 7 pin harness connector is BWD PT5793 brand Part number is and the resistor is BWD brand Part number RU1064 replace both of these at the same time will resolve your problem.
