Default What's the name of that blasted tool...

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to install an amp in my Suburban, and I'm running the power line down the drivers side right next to the sill plates. I got to the rear drivers side door, and realized that one of the screws for the sill plate is hidden under then 2nd row seatbelt mechanism. The bolt that bolts the mechanism to the ground has a head that is almost if not exactly like the head for the door lock pins. I thought it was a spline tool that was needed to remove the bolt, but I can't seem to remember the exact name of the tool I need. I know I can get it in socket form if I could just think of what it's called. Thanks

Are you perhaps referring to a Torx driver? They come in various "T" sizes, such as T-15 with the higer number being the larger Torx driver.

    I don't think it's a Torx, but it's always worth a shot...

Bolts that bolt seatbelts down are torx, large torx head bolts. That was one of my repairs when I was repair at GM.

If you can find the right size in ½ drive you will thank me for it. We put them in with ½ “ drive impacts and if we needed to put them in a little further I use a 1” impact gun.

Sorry i had to reread your post to see what it was you were looking for. (STML)

it didn't look like a Torx to me, then again, this is the first time I've had to deal with a HUGE Torx bolt. I usually deal with up to T20. Thanks all. Looks like it's time to head to Sears to get me a large torx drive socket set...

    Talking Conspiracy theory

I remember when TORX debuted in GM vehicles. I could swear it was one of those backroom deals between the patent holder Textron and GM. Now mechanics all over the world would have to buy TORX tools. Tool mfg's would have to pay royalties to Textron. Hardware dealers would have to carry the fasteners. Money, money, money.......For a deeper look at TORX check out Wikipedia. btw the generic term for TORX is: "hexalobular internal driving feature" So unless you are buying the TORX brand, try asking the clerk at Sears for the generic!
