Headlights D.O.A.
A few weeks ago my headlights started turning off and on while I was driving at night, now they don't work period. I asked around and was told check the bulbs and the "dimmer switch" the bulbs looked good and I installed a new dimmer switch this morning but my headlights still won't come on!! All other lights work good and function normally. Any ideas are greatly appreciated... My truck is a '93 Chevy

Check all of your relays, check the switch as well (they can get to hot and cook off) also your wiring harness etc.. Basically if it is connected to the headlights check it out.

The headlamps going off and on is usually an indicator that the headlamp switch is bad. Did you check for voltage at the dimmer switch when you replaced it? Was the connector melted or deformed? I'll bet you've got a simple, old fashioned bad switch.

This sounds stupid but you do mean a new headlight switch as the one on the dash?! I didn't check any voltage just replaced the dimmer switch.

common for the headlight switch or the high/low switch to fail like that on the 88-94 interiors, if you don't have headlights at all then its most likely the headlight switch on the dash.
be carefull with the dash bezel screws through the switch, the posts for the screws like to crack really easy causing the switch to fall in when you push on the switch.Last edited by outalne94z71; 01-31-2012 at 07:52 PM.

Yes the main switch on the dash. I see you have ordered a new switch, but be sure to test the wiring where it connects to the switch before you replace the switch.
