My name is Charlie, Im retired and own a 2001 sonoma 2.2 ltr 4 cyl twd pick up. I have been having a problem with it for thr last year or so. My starter went bad and I had it replaced. shortly thereafter it went bad (bendix) and they replaced it, this happened three more times. Then I took to an auto electric shop and had it rebuilt twice before having him get me an oem starter(which I believe is the same chinese starter as the rest. this went bad twice more. The last time was at the car dealership that I drive dealer trades for so I had them replace it . I have had this starter since friday the 24th of Feburary. I'm waiting to see how long this one lasts. I have asked the people in the garages to look at the fly wheel to see if the flex plate was cracked and they say they did and it was ok. I also checked it last summer when I had the starter out. If the starter goes again I may take the flywheel out and replace it this summer. Does anybody know what could be causing this problem? I have no idea what it could be.

Hi Charlie, welcome to the GMTC. I really don't know what the problem is with your starter going out but, how old is your battery? Have you had a load test done on it? They are free at most auto parts stores. See, it doesn't take much to turn over that 4 cyl. and if the battery is weak or not giving the amps needed to operate the starter it will burn out. I would clean all my connections, get the battery load checked and check all wiring for the starter. I would think if it was the flywheel it would make some sort of unusual noise. Good luck and welcome to the site.
