well....took it to the shop and after a couple hours the service advisor called and said it was the EGR Valve. didn't make much sense at the time but he offered a fullproof plan..if it didn't fix it they would pay for whatever it was. got it back and WOW! this part must have been going bad for a couple years. it drives like a brand new truck. now.....gotta fix the radio now that i know it will not die, i dont have to listen to the engine and pray. lol

well like tbplus 10 mentioned, check all vac lines. that sounds like the best place to start.

The problem is when the vacuum lines "are" plugged to the solenoid. Im puzzled! It was while checking the vacuum lines to and from the solenoid that made me discover this. What others should I check? I think they are all ok.

i would check map sensor to throttle body to egr electronic vacuum regulator solenoid to egr valve. also pcv valve, purge hose to canister, trying to remember what others there are. when i first had my problems i noticed the elbow comming off my throttle body was cracked and the hose to the egr was cracked.
