This evening I am thankful that my new phone works everywhere I want to be ... without needing to use a femtocell!

    A what????????????

A femtocell. Verizon calls them network extenders. AT&T calls them microcells. Sprint calls them what they are supposed to be called -- femotcells. It's a device that plugs into your high speed internet connection and acts as a miniature cell tower for a specific carrier's network. Your phone auto-detects it and chooses it over a full tower (or lack of signal) ... and the femotocell takes your mobile device's signal, converts it to VOIP (Voice Over IP), and gets it to the carrier over your high speed connection. It also tells the carrier when a mobile is connected to it but not in use ... so that if someone calls your mobile then the process flows in the other direction ... with the carrier sending VOIP signals to the femotocell, the femotocell converting it into a localized cell signal for your phone ... and your phone ringing so you can receive the call.

Femotcells are a means of providing localized cell service in places where no service is possible. All you need is power, a clear line of sight to the sky (a la a window) so that you can get gps lock on the gps antenna (for e911 service), and a reliable high speed Internet connection with > 1Mbps speed.

Sorry you asked? (I'm rather thankful you asked.)

I was thankful for the relaxation that the drive home in the Camaro. There's something about that old carbureted V8 that's just relaxing for me. The sounds, smells, vibrations, it all just helped me to unwind during my 10 minute drive home. Also thankful that while I do not hold the MOS of cav scout, my cav bretheren in my unit (I'm in a Cav unit) welcome me into their Cavalry brotherhood with open arms and are giving me the opportunity (and encouraging me along the way) to earn my spurs and Stetson during November's drill via the Spur ride that they are conducting.
