    Default detent cable problems need help

    the detent cable or TV cable as i refer it to is to long there for when i set it my pedel sticks my truck is an 1988 chevy c1500 5.7

    How are you setting the cable? I don't think I've ever seen a TV cable cause the throttle to stick.
    Remember that if you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem!

    the cable it to long causing it to stick it's something like 45" long

    If that's the case, you need to get the correct TV cable for it. Try RockAuto.com.

    You will need a new cable. They are under $20. If not set up properly you will burn up your trans fast.

    ok got a new one from the dealer much smaller now how do i go about setting it

    There are some good u-tube videos. But, i'll try. Get the cable hooked up into the transmission and secure. Route the cable up into the engine bay. Slide the cable thru the retainer. Now, push just the cable (not the shell) back into the trans as far as it will go. Don't over do it. connect the cable to the throttle. Go inside the cab and depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor then quickly release. Now go check the cable, it should be tight with no play at all. Some of the TV cables I have used have a button on the side that needs to be pushed prior to doing the pedal. If the TV cable is tight, you are adjusted.
