Default How can I improve my MPG

I recently purchased a Silverado 1500HD V8 6.0L automatic 2WD and wanted to know what I can do to bump up my MPG.

The easy things include driving softly ... no jackrabbit starts, don't drive over 60 MPH,e tc. You can always get it tuned to increase MPG and reduce performance a tad bit.

What year Silverado? What do you have in mind?

What type of gearing? Exhaust? Keep air filter clean. Drive it like you are going through a school zone.

Is it just me or is driving slow not much fun. .. Other than that with that 6.0 some good bolt ons and tuning will get you better mpg and a much more fun to drive truck. ..

    Didn't ask what was fun.

If everyone in the country drove 55 MPH all the time and cut out unneccessary trips ... fuel prices would plummet because we'd save 25% of our fuel.

Personally, I go with the "flow of traffic" ... usually 75+ on the freeway.

Everything I've read about any of these add-ons (like the Tornado) is that it's a gimmick. If you could get an extra 10% fuel economy from something like that, the auto manufacturers would include them as stock. They're breaking their necks to get an extra 1% fuel economy.

    Default Raise tire pressure

I kinda doubt that any motor type add ons(tornadoes,CAI, aftermarket exhausts) can improve mpg.Now I suspect that one of those piggyback ECM modules might help if you could get one tuned to mpg rather than power.I wouldn't expect an awfull lot from one of them since the manufacturers are really trying to get good mpg already.
Is your truck one of those with the really high pressure truck tires-like a 3/4 ton? Some of them run 80 psi already. If you truck calls for normal sort of pressures-35-40 psi) you can jack the pressure up to the max on the sidewall. It will improve your mpg a little, but the ride will degrade a bit-harsh.
In city driving ,I think accelerating fairly briskly to about 5 mph above the limit, and then completely lifting until you glide to about 5 mph below the limit gets better mpg than the usual 'drive like you have an egg under your foot."If you know your route pretty well, you can judge when to lift early and glide up to the redlight you know you won't make.
If you are first in line at a redlight the above is no problem; if you aren't first, then you have to pause a bit to let the first guy get a bit of a lead on you,so you don't run him down at the 5 mph above the limit.
    Luck,
    Charlie

I've had some different experience with filters and exhausts. I keep a pretty record of fuel milage consumption before and after any add ons and with just a drop in K&N I saw .5mpg increase over 5 weeks. Yeah not alot but better than nothing. I also so about .4 from my exhaust system. So together just say 1mpg gained. Now that not alot when your talking $450 but i'm sure adding on a few other things then getting a nice fuel consumption tune you'll be doing a bit better. Just my .02
