K 3500 454 rebuild
Alright I just finished college and i love my k3500 and want to do an overhaul on her instead of buying a new truck. I would like to rebuild the 454 and put a standard transmission and remove all the efi crap and put a carb on it. I was wondering if anyone on here has done this. I know it will be a pain and cost some big money but it is cheeper then buying a new truck and putting myself in debt for five years. Any advice will be greatly help.

Before i begin, carb > anything else imo. NOW, puting a carb in your truck is going to drop your fuel mileage, probably drop low end torque, and if you plan to sell your truck sometime in your lifetime, it wont sell for as much because not only more than minor engine work been done but most people will be looking for EFI. Youll, obviously, need a new intake manifold and a carb. if you decide to go with an auto trans youll also need a TV cable (make sure to set it up properly), distributor, lines, linkage, and i think youll need a new fuel pump. Im sure ive missed some things but thats all i can think of at the moment... If you ask me, its not worth it. If you REALLY want a carburated truck, I would suggest buying a truck off craigslist.
