Default What am I missing with this grille?

So I've been browsing around at grilles for my truck planning to buy one down the road as it's not one of my higher priority mods. While browsing through ebay I came across the following:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/07-08-09-10-...2a13c1&vxp=mtr

Considering the replacement grilles I've been looking at are around $1k, this is just cheap. I understand it's not steel as many of the replacement grilles are, but otherwise, am I missing something? Will this swap in on my truck? If it will, it seems worth spending the $90 just to see if I like the look. If I end up still wanting something different, there's a lot of more expensive things I could have ended up changing my mind on.

Do any of you have any thoughts on this thing? Is it worth a chance? Or is it just a cheap piece of crap that will break as soon as a mosquito hits it?

    As always, thanks..

It's a thick Plastic it should be fine.. Are you going to paint it to match your truck? Do that keep the Mesh black and maybe a billet Grille on...

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. I think a lot of that depends on what I'm going to do with the front bumper. Since I have the body matched bumper I was thinking of leaving it black. If I go with the fab fours, I'd probably body match it. One way or another, I like having some body color up front for the overall look of the nose. I'm definitely keeping the mesh black. Though, if I do body match the center piece, that would solve my question of what to do with the front bowtie. I could just paint it black and leave it rather than going through the hassle of trying to paint it black and outline it in body match paint.

I may also look at a billet insert over the mesh. That, plus this one would still make it a quarter the price of a full replacement.

I really need to get a copy of photoshop and get good with it so I can play with the different ideas.

As in in general from the dealership? I've seen pics of memebrs on here with the center grill divider color matched and I can't decide between that or black. Going to google now though...

That is an "OEM STYLE" part. It is not a GM issue piece. It was most likely made in China. That doesn't mean that is bad... I had an 03 that had been involved in a front end bump before I had it. I would never have known if I hadn't been behind the bumper mounting lights in the bumper slots and found a "Made in China" sticker on the back of it. Further research revealed that almost the whole nose was Chinese parts.
"It went together didn't it? Well then there has to be a way to take it apart!" - Me.

You have a much newer truck than I have and I am very particular about parts for my truck but I went through 3 different grills for mine "all aftermarket Chinese crap" and I was not happy with the fit, the look or the quality. Also the place where the bowtie goes was open on the bottom so the border around the bowtie was not complete. I ended up spending almost $1000 for the GM 2005 Tahoe grill and Grillcraft stainless steel wire mesh insert and I am very happy with the result. I just wish I had not wasted all the money on the poor quality copy's. That being said, I have seen allot of people that are happy with them, I am just very picky about things like that.

If your going to go with that style of grille just paint the one you have. Look for a 2012 z71 grille. It's the one that looks like the 2500s grille with the split in the middle. I just got one for 250 on eBay that matches my truck

Here is a shot of my '03 with the Chinese grille and bumper. notice the aftermarket tranny cooler behind the lower section of the grille. All of the parts on the front end (including the hood, fenders and bumper - but not the headlights) came over on a slow boat. Sorry about the red lights... it was the best shot of the grille I could find...

I got mine off of ebay about six months ago. The quality was lacking, but it does fit. I paid about $150.00 shipped.Click image for larger version.
