Early maintenance...how many do it?
I've always been pro-preventative maintenance. This is the third new vehicle I've owned, and like the others will change out the fluids early in order to flush the break-in particles out to prevent the extra wear.
I did the oil change this past Sunday, definitely need to find a filter cup for future changes. The oil drained very dark, and very thick (?), for only 1500 miles. I would have assumed a new engine would have sheared the initial oil fairly quickly, and it would be thinner from the shearing and fuel dilution (rings not seated). Makes me wonder if the oil is a break-in oil, and not actually 5w30? It was metal-flaked, which isn't surprising...the filter didn't have anything surprising in it. I refilled with Mobile 1 EP and used a Purolator Pure One filter.
I checked everything else, will probably drain the rear differential (since I found it has a drain plug) and transfercase this week to flush them as well.
Does anyone else change fluids early?

In addition to changing fluids early I also check fluids with Blackstone Labs (just did oil; next maint I'll do tranny fluid). I also change out parts early if I'm working near them and it's convenient.
