Explain the G80 operation to me...
OK, I know its a hybrid of sorts...its primarily a locking differential, but I'm pretty sure its got clutches to activate the locking mechanism...how do they work? What gear oils is everyone using, and is there any brands that cause problems?

As I am sure the video states (I think I have seen it before but didnt watch it now) Basically it works like a limited slip. it is open until there is a detected wheel spin of a set speed. At that point it will fully lock as a locker would. It will stay locked up to a certain speeds (both on the upper and lower end).
Ok so I watched the video again (good video). they said it a little more technical than I did

OK, that makes sense; it operates like a Dana Trac-Loc but has the ability to add more load to the friction discs than that developed soley by the bellevue washers...so its a fancy limited slip, not a true locking diff by any stretch of the imagination.
So it will be sensitive to the type of gear lube used...

I use mobil 1. You just need to use a synthetic 75-90. Once it locks it is a true locker as it will send equal power to both wheels. The design tends to lead to alot of discussion on threads but technically speaking once the 100rpm difference is detected it fully locks, making it a locking diff.

Fully locks using clutches...but there is no steel-to-steel contact like a true "locker" like a Detroit.

OK, when did they install a drain plug in these axles? I just found this today when I was changing oil...I assume its a oil drain plug and not some sort of gasket self-destruct screw?
