Where is INTERNAL fuse box?

I have a 2004 Colorado that has the usual disease for these (burned-out resistor pack for the blower motor). I want to investigate and fix it. However, the passenger-side air bag is in that area and I want to disable it first. There is the problem. The owner's manual does not offer any useful information about accessing the interior (not the one in the engine compartment), fuse Box. And, the Haynes manual just says that the interior fuse box is, "...at the left end of the instrument panel...", and goes on to say that the fuse for the air bag is in there and should be removed before working near the air bag. To further confuse, using a search engine, there have been references to a fuse for the air bags inside the engine compartment fuse box that is referenced as "SIR" in that location.

Questions: Where and how do I get at the interior fuse box. And, what is that stuff about an air bag fuse in the engine compartment fuse box?

Pictures would be nice.

If you open the driver side door there should be an access panel that you can remove to get to the fuses inside the cab. as for the location of the airbag fuse I am not sure.

Unfortuantely, there is no access panel there. Unless you mean a little 2"x2" square on the upper area...but that is way to small to be an "access panel".

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think your truck has an interior fuse block.

According to the manual your air bag fuse is in the engine fuse block.

Disarming The System

1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK, remove the key, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the SIR fuse from the fuse block.
4. Remove the steering column filler panel or knee bolster.
5. Unplug the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow four way connector at the base of the steering column.
6. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the passenger yellow four way connector located behind the glove box.
7. Unplug the yellow four way connector located behind the glove box.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
   
   
   
   Arming The System
9. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
10. Attach the yellow four way connector located behind the glove box.
11. Install the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) to the passenger yellow four way connector located behind the glove box.
12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK, then remove the key.
13. Attach the four way connector at the base of the steering column and the Connector Position Assurance (CPA).
14. Install the steering column filler panel or knee bolster.
15. Install the AIR BAG fuse to the fuse block.
16. Connect the negative battery cable.
17. Staying away from the air bags, turn the ignition switch to RUN and make sure that the AIR BAG warning lamp flashes seven times and then shuts off. If the warning lamp does not shut off, make sure that the wiring is properly connected. If the light remains on, take the vehicle to a reputable repair facility for service.
