    Unplugged is correct. The wires have a tendency to rub and short out or get cut in two. G.M. will try to sell the complete shifter when all you need to do is repair the broken wire and I would probably put extra tape at rub/pinch points for longevity. Its pricey but I prefer 3m super 33+ for a reliable repair.

    unplugged is correct. from this site and others, i have learned it is a common problem on silverados. i took all my covers off to get to the column, saw the orange lead, which is actually a sheath for two very fine wires. there was a break. i used superglue to bond them, then wrapped carefull in electricians tape, opposite directions so they cannot engage each other. works fine now.

    if your dealer diagnoses that you need a new lever, with no real inspection, find another dealer.
