Default want to buy a welder.

I really want to learn how to weld, unfortunately I don't have a tech school all that close to take a class but want to basically be able to weld exhaust and maybe some small home projects. Im sure I can pick up some pointers on here and on youtube videos but I really don't know what kind I should get. I really don't want to blow the bank the first time out but don't want a piece of crap either. I would like to stay on a model that is 120v so I don't have to wire in 220 to the garage. Any comments, experiences help is appreciated

I own a couple different welders, Mig,Tig, Arc, and Oxy Acetelyn, the one I use most for small projects is an older Mig 120v with an optional gas connection, works great for all the projects you mentioned.
Mine is a Clarke 120, cost about $250 new at Tractor Supply.
