Please never let your children or some one elses children out of your vehicle when you are on the freeway. I was working in the ER when this young child was brought in.

A teenager was run over and killed by a boat being pulled behind a truck that ran out of gas on Highway 101 near Ukiah Friday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to CHP spokesman Steve Krul, the driver of a full-size Chevrolet pick-up truck pulling a boat trailer ran out of gas while heading northbound on Highway 101 and pulled over near the Lake Mendocino Drive off-ramp.

Krul said the driver, a 41-year-old Petaluma man, then got out of the vehicle and began pushing it with the help of the several teenagers he was traveling with.
"As they were pushing the truck, it started to descend and as the vehicle picked up speed, the driver jumped back into the truck," Krul said. "The others pushing also tried to get back in, and the victim slipped and fell and was run over by the boat."
Krul said the driver called 911 at 10:15 a.m. Personnel from Ukiah Valley Fire District and CAL FIRE responded as well as the CHP.
Krul said the group was all from Petaluma and the victim's name was not being released.
The off-ramp was closed for at least a couple of hours as officers investigated and as of 1:30 p.m. it was re-opened to traffic.
Krul said it was unknown whether any charges will be filed in the incident as the investigation is ongoing.
