    Default 4x4 won't engage

    my front 4x4 is not working. what do i need to check?...first chevy 4x4. its a 95 suburban with manual tcase.

    '95 suburban 4x4,5.7,auto dd/family truckster/tow rig
    '95 kia sportage 4x4, 2.0 dohc,auto., crawler project

    The acutator motor that locks up the front wheels probably has gone out unless its more serious than that.

    4x4 Hi and Lo will not engage? Does the indicator light up on the floor mounted shifter?



    If at first you don't succeed, chances are, you are using too small of a cheater bar

    no it does not. just aways shows 2wd.

    I agree with riley, check out the front actuator. It just screws into the front diff. Unscrew it and then with the key on put in 4 wheel drive, see if it moves out, if the rod does not move then most likely that is your issue. If that is the issue, check out posi-lok http://www.4x4posi-lok.com/app_chevy-k.html . You will never have the issue again. I had one in my 95 and loved it.
