Question 89 Suburban. Have spark and fuel. Still will not start. PLEASE HELP!

    Hi guys.

We have a new (to us) old suburban with the 5.7 tbi 4x4. We have had the truck for two weeks. Has run great. This morming we head out and truck quits after a couple seconds of running. We changed cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter and checked everything we knew to check. There is fuel pumping into the throttle body. We have good spark when tested (remover plug and set against header). We checked timing and appears to be correct or real close to it. From my experience if you have fuel and spark, you have a running motor. Not us.

    Does anyone have any ideas/theories?

    Thx guys.

You are positive it is spaying fuel in the throttle body?
It is fuel injected I take it, just because you have fuel going to the throttle body does not mean your injectors are working. Check your fuses.

We did do a comp check on the #1 cylinder. It was 120 psi. Have not done the rest. We can see fuel spraying out the injectors when cranking. Even with starting fluid, still nothing.

It's alive! Ignition coil fixed it. Lesson for me...apparently you can have a good spark, but not good enough.

    Thanks for you guys' replies.

I had an MSD 6A which saved me many times because the MSD coil would die. Good catch on that. If you're using MSD coils, go back to OEM.
