hey all, I will be putting a new tire on my truck that in all likelihood will require me to trim the chrome bumper. Is there a proper way to do it so the chrome won't chip, peel, or crack? I intend on applying some type of coating in the newly exposed area to prevent rust but i figure if the chrome gets messed up during the cut it's gonna be to late to fix. thanks for your help!

You may be able to get away with trimming the bumper, but "coating" with any type of paint/sealer won't be as good as a rechrome. Nothing wrong with trimming, and a good clear coat will hold the rust at bay for awhile.
Just keep in mind that if the chrome starts to flake or bubble you will be at that point to dress the wound and send it into the chrome shop for a proper chrome finish. Stacey David did an episode of GearZ that covered bumper customization. Check it out here: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/B...end_155241.htm
