Can anyone provide instructions (or ideas) on how to gain access to the inside of the dashboard up towards the windshield? Need to find a source of a rattle up near the little black light sensor dome. I have taken the front of the dash apart many times, but that does not get me anywhere close to where I need to get.

    any help appreciated.

OK - I have the procedure for removing the top of the dashboard. Very easy and handy for various tasks (running wiring, looking for rattles, etc...) gives you lots of access when removed.

    Steps:

    1) remove pillar covers (one clip towards the top of the pillar)
    2) pull off the front bezel (once again, just pull on it - its held by clips, no screws)
    3) Remove dashboard side panels. Driver side has a fuse panel behind it, passenger side has some plugs. These are the panels visible when doors are open looking at the side of the dash.
    4) pull out the passenger side vents
    5) Remove the passenger handle-bar thing. (When looking into the vents, there are white "buttons" that release the handle when pressed. It helps to have another person for this one as you have to hold both of the buttons in while pulling out the handle)
    6) remove 6 phillips screws (2 behind each side trim, and one in each vent hole) and five 7mm hex screws above instrument cluster and right of radio.
    7) pull the top of the dash towards you to release hooks by the windshield
    8) unscrew the ambient light sensor (black dome toward the windshield)
    9) You're done.
