My friend thinks he can tow me backwards in his chevy 1500 with a 5.3l. My truck is a 1988 gmc sierra 3500 with a 5.7l v8. Can my truck pull more than his and if we do decide to hook on to each other who will win. Also i have 255/70/16 tires and his are 285/70/16. Both trucks have 270000 kms and 2 inch body lift. Mines a single cab long box and hes got an extended cab.

Have no idea but would guess the one that weighs the most would win.

3500 all the way......make sure you don't pull his bloody axle or bumper off during the win....

5.7 is a torquey thing. but a 88 is old and kinda tired, 5.3 has same mileage, but is newer, 1 ton has stiffer springs, so rear end wont load like the 1500 (when u pull something, and pull it hard, rear ends can squat, not alot, but has to do with weight loading) also, reg cab long box vs. exsb weight, not sure what the difference would be, but they are close. big thing here is tire width, 255 vs, 285s...

I got a feeling it'll be close and could go either way.
Drop the air pressure to about 20psi in your rear tires so you can hook-up and get traction cause thats where the pulls gonna be won or lost.

I'm not really sure which truck will win but I would be more concerned with one of the trucks breaking. With that much mileage on both trucks there is alot of parts fatigue to consider. My guess is who ever can pull without breaking is going to win!!!

I will go with the 5.7. But like Red I am hopeful you don't tear either one up, unles you have plenty of spare parts
