..... I have a '93 Suburban with the rubber rag joint ... I've been scrounging the local pick-n-pull for a decent replacement and discovered that the later trucks have a U-joint instead of the rag ... can I use one of the later shafts on mine ? ... Seems that dealer new lower steering shafts are discontinued from GM and the junk yard stuff isn't much better than mine was ... My burban has 345K on it and most junk yard donors are in or above the 200K zone ......

That's a tough one, anytime that you're messing with steering things get a whole lot more serious and important.

What's wrong with your joint, it's just all deteriorated or what?

I just read somewhere that you can look in the help section at Autozone for replacement rag joint kits with both the rubber ring and replacement bolts that should match and fit for a 1993.

...... I bought the universal donut and spent about 1/2 hour drilling out one rivet ... there are four ... the holes in the rubber disc are different sizes and the supplied hardware doesn't match anything on the original ... so far , I have found two decent lower shafts at the pick-n-pull but they aren't tight ... better than what I had , but not tight ........ the third gen F-body guys use the lower shaft out of an S-10 because it has u-joints and eliminates the rag ... they have to re-clock one of the joints 90 degrees to keep the steering wheel straight .......... I was hoping someone here would be able to tell me something similar ... I guess there's no choice but to buy one of the later shafts and see if it works ......
