my 96 1500 vortec started skipping every now and then so i replaced plugs, wires, rotor and cap and still it is skipping but not all the time seems like it is worse when i am crusing about 55 mph and just barely pressing the gas pedal. anyone got any clues?

Welcome to the Club!! I would assume you did change the air filter, if not start there. You may have a sensor going or try cleaning your Mass Air Flow sensor wint some rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip.

Maybe coil...could clean maf ..but spray it do not touch filaments ..damage them.
Check fuel pressure at least 58 psi and hold. Fuel filter.

    X2 on Dipstick, Fuel Filter.

Very inexpesive swap out to see if that solves your issues.

Pretty sure it's the fuel filter.

Have a place to connect the gauge on inlet fuel line ..at intake ,beside plenum that covers injection system.
Looks like a valve on a vehicle wheel. Some auto places have loan a tool ..for the gauge.
If and when you check ..connect gauge ..just turn key to on position.

Fuel Filter, less than $20, easy to replace.
