2000 3500hd blowing black smoke????

    I drive a 2000 3500hd at work & pulling a load it has no power and blows black smoke bad. changed air,fuel,oil filters.. The bosses mechanic is a jerk he is lost.. I think its the turbo or the air pump?????any help????

    If it is a diesel, have you checked the injectors?

    His mechanic is lost. the service engine light is on. Its says its turbo pressure??? It goes down the road great with no load behind it.Starts right up,uses no oil. Yes it a diesel.

    I would have to agree on injectors, but first is the truck equipped with egr, because if the egr valve is hung paritally open due to soot accumulation then it would cause excessive black smoke and low boost pressure. And also check for any boost leaks in the pipes or intercooler.

    Check the vacuum pump out and check the waste-gate solenoid for operation and all the vac lines....
