2000 K2500 4 Wheel drive problem

My 2000 K2500 has 130k miles. When parked the 4 high button is pushed, the transfer case seems to run, but when I put the transmission into drive it has a real bad metal on metal rubbing noise and it does not feel like it ever engages smoothly. It can not be driven over 15-20 mph. When going back to 2 wheel drive it lunges real bad. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but there is excessive brake dust on the left front wheel and also a vibration that seems to come from the left from between 40-50 mph. The transfer case and front bearings have been checked and were reported to be okay.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    George

Shifting from 2 Hi to 4 Hi should be smooth and unnoticeable while driving. There will be noise shifting from 4 Hi to 4 Low. Once in 4 Low you should not drive over 15 MPH. HTH
