2000 Silverado back-up lights

Discussion in 'GM Electrical Tech' started by 08silverado3500hd, Oct 18, 2012.

  1. Have a 2000 Silverado 3500, 7.4L with a 5 speed manual transmission and the back-up lights just recently quit working. For the past couple of months if the lights didn't come on you could shift out of reverse and then back in and they would come on. Have checked the light bulbs and they are not burnt out and all the contacts look fine. Guessing it is a switch problem, does anyone know where the switch is located that turns on the reverse lights. Any help would be appreciated especially since the truck is due for it's annual state inspection.

I don't know much about that tranny, but the switch should be mounted on the side of the transmission and operated by the reverse shift linkage.
