I have a 2010 suburban. I started to change the brakes and found the backing plate outside edge has rusted through I assume I need to replace? The auto parts store has a split plate or a standard plate.

Any one have any experience on a split plate? Are they as good as standard plate. I assume I need to remove axle if I use standard plate but I not sure about split plate.
If I go with the standard how do I remove axle?
