    Hello All,

I'm new to the forum and looking for some guidance. I am looking to purchase a differnent suburban/yukon xl and was looking for 4.10 gears. I currently have a 2001 Suburban with 3.73 gears and I am not all that satisified with it's towing capabilities. My personal opinion is you need 4.10 gear with the 5.3 vortec or go with the 6.0 or 8.1 (prior to 2006). I have been looking for an 2500 with the 8.1 for quite awhile and haven't had much luck for what I want. So...I am now looking for the new body style 07-10 suburban/yukon xl with the 5.3 with the 4.10 gears.

Here is my question. How can I easily tell if a burb or yukon has the 4.10 gears? Is there a way to tell from the VIN or do I have to call the local GM dealer? Are they hard to come by?

    Thanks in advance.

All you need to know is the RPO codes that are listed in the glove box I know that GT4 is 3.73 and GT5 or GT8 is 4.10. the new suburbans only come with 3.06 1/2 ton or 3.73 for 3/4 ton, the colorado with the V8 option can get the 4.10, and the silverado only comes as high as 3.43 even with the 6.2 when you look online. So you most likely are gonna have to go aftermarket with it.

I have a 2010 1500 Suburban (5.3) with the 3.43 gears. How difficult would it be to convert to 4.10's. Will the speedometer be able to be adjusted? Any Idea on cost?
