Has anyone had a problem with their 5.3L using moter oil? Mine is using about 2qt. per 3000 mi. The dealer said factory is aware of problem and has a fix. The fix consists of removing oil pan , installing oil deflector , removing & cleaning spark plugs ,filling cylinders with cleaner , and changing oil and filter. This was done to mine at no charge however it has allready used a quart at only 1400 mi. after last oil change. I have owned several 5.3L vehicles non ever used any oil. This truck has only 38000mi. on it. It is the varible disp.(V8 to V4). I havenot read about this problem on this site. I have heard about it on a Surburban site.

There have been a few who have mentioned it, and there is actually a long thread about it here on the site.. But if the "fix" didnt do what it was supposed to i would bring it back and complain.. Since a quart an oil change is pretty average for most motors, but a quart in 1400 miles is way to much

X2 on Mikes advice. If the deflector didn't fix it, take it back!!

My uncle has this issue with his 2009? I think LTZ. He took it in and the dealership diagnosed it as a problem with the piston ring not sealing and burning oil. not sure what the fix was, just giving you some insight. It's under warranty, take it back to the dealer!
