Had an issue with a vehicle loosing drive going at 60 mph steady on the road . prior to this ticking was heard....found the flywheel had cracked in a circle around the bolts causing the connection to the tranny to be lost..

Any one ever seen this ? low miles below 100,000 miles ..

I have seen it a few times. One was because of loose bell housing bolts and a bad tranny mount. There was also a missing dowel pin between the motor and trans. The other was blamed on a bad torque converter. (not real sure how they arrived at that diagnosis). I have heard of it happening when a guy swaps out his own trans and does not bother using the proper torque specs for the Torque converter to flywheel bolts.

Wow, and I've never heard of a cracked fly wheel. The flywheels are made of very hard and strong iron/steel. I would think the bolts would sheer before the fly wheel would break so there must of been a prior problem with it.
