Hey guys, I have an 09 reg cab v6 and been wanting to get rid the weird box thing that mounts to the front side of my intake. Is it necessary or what can I do to remove it?

Your signature says that you have a Gm performance parts CAI. Are you talking about the box around the air filter? I am not familiar with the model you have. Can you take a picture of the box that you are referring to?

I'm not sure how to attach pics yet but in my profile under photos I have a pic of the gm air box and the intake tube where the box part I am talking about. Its pic #5

Yes, its necessary if you want your truck to last as long as possible.

b-radical, I have no idea why. So, I have to ask why?

I have seen where intake systems like K&N have that box part removed on the v8s and I was wanting to do that with mine. But since I have a v6 there isn't much out there for me.

I just wanted to get more experienced opinions on this. (thanks B-radical and Pikey) I'm pretty sure its there to help keep the engine quieter through the intake and to give the valve cover breather tube a place to connect, but I can reconnect it to the intake tube itself. I'm not sure why GM designed it this way and if it is even neccessary.

That part is to help reduce intake noise, it serves no other purpose.
Removing it, other than make the intake slightly louder, will have no other negative effects on your engine.
