hi, i have a 1991 gmc jimmy. it has a 4.3l fuel injected v6 in it. its a 2 door 4x4. i was wondering how i could get more power from my car without spending tons of money. like i dont want to buy a new engine or tranny or something like that, i just want some more power out of it. also i was wondering what is the biggest size tire this truck could handle? right now i have 205's on it. i was going to buy 225's but then a friend said that my engine wasn't big enough to handle those size of tires and that my truck couldn't handle it. is that true? could my truck handle 225's? or should i get 215's? thanks for all your help!!!

I had a '93 Jimmy and it had enough power w/ stock tires...The bigger the meat, the more power they need to stay the same feel as stock...

A racer said it well at the track..."How Fast can YOU afford?"...sure you can tweak some things, K & N Filter, Synthetic fluids, smaller pulleys, etc. but if you are unhappy w/ a 4.3L Jimmy You may need to trade it for something w/ a V8....

And with 225s that will be just fine.. You can go all the way to 235s with out any major power problems. Also a good tune up will help keep the power there.. And a K&N filter would be helpful, as would a bit more free flowing exhaust. Otherwise with out going into the motor and tranny there really isnt a way to "get more power" but as wis-bang said gears would help with taller tires and mabey a little more gearing to get a little more power.. BUt with more gears over what you need to do to return to stock with you will loose some highway milage.

so yes on the 225's? or no..ha. and asides from the k & N filter what could i do to the engine to get the power? because i really love the size and body style of this truck and don't really want to get rid of it just yet. i plan on milking a few more years out of this bad boy!

To be honest not a lot since its a TBI 4.3L.. the Vortec had more power.. And there are more aftermarket parts available for the vortec.. Basically keep everything up. You can do a cam, but that requires tearing into the motor, as well as new heads, things like that..
