How do I know which transmission I have in my 2001 Suburban 1500 AWD?

Your Suburban 1500......most likely has the 4L60e.......in your Glove Box is a white sticker with a series of Letters & Numbers.....they are RPO code's,in short what your Suburban came with from the Factory....for the 4L60e.....you will be looking for RPO Code.....M30

And for the 4L80e.....the RPO code.....MT1

+1...look for the RPO code. Generally, the 80s are in 3/4 and 1-ton vehicles and the 60s are in 1/2-ton vehicles.

What else can I decipher from the RPO code. Is there a link you can point to that will help me read the code?
