89 suburban electrical problem

Hi, I am a new member and have a problem with my 89 suburban. I have searched the forum and am unable to find a solution. It will crank over and start and run for a minute or so and then cuts off just like you turned it off. Then it won't even crank at all.
After it sits for a short time (never the same amount of time) it will crank over and start and then in a minute or so it cuts off again and will not crank over. This goes on over and over. During the non cranking period the gauges will not come on when the key is turned on although the headlights and interior lights continue to work. During this period when turning the key on you can barely hear a very slight buzzing or humming from the seat belt/etc. alarm which is normally very loud. Wondering if there is some type of circuit breaker heating up and kicking out. Any advice is appreciated. WDJr
