96 chevy ENG 1 and TRANS fuse problems

I recently have purchased a 96 chevy silverado and everything has been going fine. The other day I was looking at the fuses messing around and notice that there is a wire running from the ENG 1 fuse under the hood to the TRANS fuse inside the cab on the side of the dash. Curious as I was I removed the wire, but when I removed the wire the truck would not start. The truck would turn over but seemed to have no spark. My understanding is the ENG 1 fuse is for inginition purposes, but why hook it up to the TRANS fuse? If anyone has any insite on why this would be like this or what those fuses do, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    MITCH
