96 suburban trans swap

    i have a 96 suburban 5.7 4x4 with a bad trans i have a trans from a 94 suburban 4x4 everything looks the same except where the shifter hooks on the 96 has a black box ? the 94 does not have it i was told i could put the box on the 94 and it would work in my 96 burb any help would be appreciated thanks dave

    I'm not an expert on these swaps, but from what I've seen on the internet:

    '94 and older 4L60E's swap ok
    '95 is its own year
    '96+ 4L60E (OBS) swap ok

    I don't remember all of the specifics. One thing I've seen discussed is the TCC control. On the later model 4L60E, the control is pulse width modulated, the older models are simpler on/off type control.

    From what I've read, it's going to take more than just swapping that black box to get the '94 4L60E to work in your '96. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable in these swaps will chime in.
