97 chevy silverado

    can someone out there tell me where the steering assist chip is located and how do I change it ??????

    Welcome to the site.

    If you mean the "power steering control module", then my book tells me it is "under the instrument panel". Replacement is as follows:

    POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM)​
    Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect wiring connectors. Remove instrument panel extension. Remove PSCM by sliding module forward, then pulling down. To install, reverse removal procedure.

    NOTE: When replacing PSCM, EEPROM inside must be calibrated using special equipment.​
