I have a 97' Tahoe 5.7L , Most of the time it starts real easy, But sometime it acts like the distributor is a tooth off, popping/ backfiring, real rough! Any ideas? Thanks, Steve

If any one cares, It ended up being the cap and rotor, the spark was good going in the cap but dead coming out. New cap and rotor, Runs great !

Thanks for the update Steve, I missed the original post, sorry.

Although, I might not have been much help. After reading your post, I was thinking starter. I might have asked, does this only happen when the engine is hot, thinking that a hot starter might be dragging (GM starters are known for this).

Anyway, I'm glad you solved your problem.

Wow, sorry that no one jumped in and offered any help for you on that. Just a suggestion, having that comma in the middle of the title sort of threw everything. Maybe next time (again, not your fault here) ... "97 Tahoe 5.7 won't start - any suggestions?"

Glad you got it worked out.
