So I'm in need of some brakes and instead of getting ripped off at a shop I might just do it on my own. However, apparently there are different size brakes on the 99 suburbans SLT 4x4 k1500 5.7l v8 engine? I figured there would only be one brake size for the slt/5.7l/4x4 but I was wrong. Is there something I can look at in the vin to make sure I order the right size pads and shoes? or do I have to check the old fashioned way by measuring? Thanks.

I have a 99 Surb LT, one size. There are different grades of brake shoes.

So for the 6 lug the only size is the 11" shoe?

Yes, the 13" is for Diesels.

Cool, thanks. Pads don't seem that difficult to do but how difficult will the shoes be on the drums? I've heard they can be a PITA...
