2007-2009 GM Models, Anyone had a problem with the Windshield Heaters? Seems like there should be a fix for this? GM says no fix, removes it and gives you a $100.00? There have only been 5 incidents? Mine works and I keep getting there PostCards to come in and have it Fixed (Taken out). I see they make After Market Ones, so why can't they FIX it?

I keep getting the notices on my '07 Avalanche, and I have no intention of removing it. Mine has worked great for the past 4 years. It's worth more than $100 and an empty hole in the dash to have the ice melted on the cold early mornings in the mountains. I wish that GM would provide more detail on the problem, i.e. what can catch fire.....the switch, wiring, relay or the heating element in the washer bottle? GM already installed an in line low amperage fuse in the circuit under their first recall which would likely blow before there was sufficient current draw to start a fire anyway. I can see how an empty reservoir could cause a heating/melting/fire so I make sure to keep the washer bottle topped off.

Anyone have more details on the actual causes of the incidents of fire?
