GM Recalls About 900,000 Pickup Trucks By KEN THOMAS, Associated Press Writer
    1 hour, 54 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - General Motors Corp. said Friday it is recalling about 900,000 pickup trucks worldwide to fix tailgate cables that can corrode and break when loads are placed on them.

The recall involves 1999-2000 models of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks. GM said there have been 84 injuries, most of them minor scrapes.

Yup, here is another version of it:

General Motors said Friday it is recalling about 900,000 pickup trucks worldwide to fix tailgate cables that can corrode and break when loads are placed on them.

The recall involves 1999-2000 models of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks. GM said there have been 84 injuries, mostly minor scrapes and bumps, but no crashes or deaths linked to the problem.

Owners are expected to receive recall notices in April, but they can bring their trucks into a dealership for inspection if they suspect problems with the cables, GM spokesman Alan Adler said.

If anyone gets this recall done, please post your experience. ie. how long it takes to replace, etc. Seems like a pretty quick fix.

Has anyone else heard any information on this? It's like a late Friday afternoon press release, but I haven't heard anything on the news about it anyhow.

Doesn't make a difference. All should be covered. But you have to stop by a Chevy dealer so they can check if your truck applies.

Yeah, it's a recall. They realized that this defect shows a lack of engineering and design forethough, so they're saying that most all 1999-2000 Silverados and Sierra have something that needs to be fixed and they're going to pay for it.

I guess they're going to take their time becuase it's such a "non-major" recall. More of an annoyance if your straps failed.
