I have recently purchased a 1995 Chevrolet Kodiak with the CAT Powered Diesel, this truck had alot of relays missing and wiring headaches, i fixed 95% of the wiring and now have to work on the instrument panel and the alternator. Everytime I connect the positive to the alternator it arcs really bad so I'm suspecting a short in the positive cable or a faulty alternator.

You're shorting out somewhere. What's the history of the truck. Have you recently started to repair this and you started with the wiring?

In a car, or smaller truck, that would indicate a blown diode in the alternator. The larger trucks probably use a similar alternator.
